STAY WITH ME - THE MOUNTAIN AS A SPACE OF RESONANCE
Stay with Me. The Mountain as a Space of Resonance, curated by Andrea Lerda,
opens at Museomontagna at 6 pm on Tuesday 31 October.
The exhibition takes its cue from German sociologist Hartmut Rosa’s Resonance.
A Sociology of Our Relationship to the World to explore the concept of resonance.
Not in the sense of total harmony but as a dynamic relationship wherein subject and
world touch each other to stimulate vibrancy and mutual transformation.
Setting aside the contemplation of the mountain environment in favour of a speculative
approach to being-with-the-mountain, the exhibition probes the possibility
of seeing a resonant relationship as a transformative and improving experience
in the relationship between human and other than human at this time of climate
“catastrophe”, as it has been described by António Guterres, Secretary General of
the United Nations.
The exhibition presents works by sound artist Magda Drozd and walking artist
Michael Höpfner, specifically created for this project and born out of Höpfner’s
walks in the Alps and Drozd’s field recordings in the transborder areas between
Italy and France.
The works convey a new way of experiencing the mountains wherein being able
to access their enjoyment beyond what is known and rational seems fundamental.
The artists open themselves up to the fleeting and the unpredictable, interpreting
the relationship with the mountains from an abstract standpoint and the exhibition
experience invites visitors to enter a profound metaphysical dimension wherein
essence, attention and disenchantment are essential prerequisites for a different
approach to living present time.
Exhibition dates from 1 November 2023 to 31 March 2024
